The Game We'll Play, final version

Before we loved each other,
w
e simply loved together.
Too close for two years,
too far for a decade before.

Wanting you was like
the newest fad; everyone needed you.
Never thought the day would come
where you’d stare me in the eyes

and say “I love you”
like you’ve done so many times before
but without the boundary of friendship
holding back the true meaning.

My blood relations
wish to rid me of you.
My thoughts.
My dreams.
My air.
My life.

They have done so in a way
we have no control over (there’s no cheating now).
They know the rules
that we can’t break (oh no, there’s no cheating).

Let’s make new ones,
shall we, love?
Altering the way we play
will anger them, I’m sure.

But remember, for me,
every word,
every pause,
every tone,
every scream,
every friend,
every lie,
and every breath
that we share because

who knows when this game will finish?
